Local Area Information

Polruan National Trust owned land surrounds the area and there are many scenic coastal walks. Polruan has two convenience shops (see below), two pubs (with wifi) and a cafe, trading all year round catering for most every day requirements. The Winkle Picker down by the harbour does cashback.  Useful website with general info (includes bus times to Polperro and Looe) :http://www.polruan.org.uk

There are two small sandy beaches in Polruan (both vanish at high tide) - one in the harbour/quay area and another just behind the Lugger pub). Dogs are not allowed on these beaches. (For Info on Dog friendly beaches: http://www.thecornishcoast.co.uk/DOGM.htm )

For launching boats / moorings and storage see below.

In the summer a local mini bus runs from Polruan to Polperro - the energetic can then walk back along the coast.

Lovely walks along the coast to Lantic Bay. Also the well known, Hall walk which takes you along the creek to Boddinick (you then take the car ferry to Fowey, and the foot ferry from Fowey to Polruan. For Hall wall info see: http://www.polruan.org.uk  .

Fowey itself can be reached by car via the Ferry at nearby Bodinnick, or by regular passenger ferry running from the quay in Polruan. There are all the usual (and unusual) shops, banks, galleries, quirky cafés (our favourite is Pinky Murphy's), restaurants and a good bucket and spade beach (Readymoney beach).

The aquarium in Fowey is low key but still worth a visit - it houses an impressive moray eel.

further around the coast from Fowey are more beaches, Polridmouth beach and Combe beach (that do allow dogs all year round).

there is a stunning walk from Fowey around the headland to Polkerris (takes about 2 hours).  (dogs not allowed on Polkerris beach in the summer).  Polkerris has a very good pub and restaurant (Sam's).  You can then walk home on a more direct route to Fowey following the Saint's Path.

Free boat launching in Fowey but you are meant to pay Harbour dues (Harbour office in the centre of Fowey - website below).

The best place to have a drink is on the terrace of the Royal Fowey Yacht Club overlooking the harbour (the food is good too and very reasonably priced -( £8 for a two course sunday lunch)).  If you are already a member of another yahct club you just sign in. Otherwise you are meant to take out a temporary membership (£30 for a week). However they seem keen to get whatever business they can get so you could just walk in and order/book.

Shop local! Polruan has a small grocery convenience shop (Polruan Store) and another shop on the quay which is more for touristy bits and bobs but also has useful hardware and some food.  Polruan Store will order in food for you - phone 01726 870477  email: kiki@polruanstore.com

In Fowey there is Kittow's and Rachael's Relish (butcher and deli), Nile's Bakery,  Middletons of Fowey Fudge shop (also does cornish pasties), and there is a small spar.
